Grand Canyon Hike Day 1

Hey everyone!

So to continue my blog we got up at 330 am and headed for the Grand Canyon, we caught the 8am shuttle near Maswik Lodge over to the South Keibab Trailhead and got all packed up and ready to go! Here is a pic of Me Ryan and Jennifer at the trailhead.
So after that we started hiking Down the trail with 7 miles of hiking ahead of us it was a little icy and slippery to start with since we were at about 7,000 feet in elevation this place is so amazing pictures can't do it justice I couldn't stop looking around as we hiked down there was just so much to see we took our first break at Cedar Ridge 1.5 miles in and at 6000 ft elv. the snow and ice were gone at this point and we snacked for a short bit then pressed on. Here is a few pics on the way to this point!

Our next stop was at Skeleton Point 3 miles in and at 5200 ft elevation at this point my right shoulder was starting to hurt so I made some adjustments to my pack. Also while we were stopped we saw the park mules that travel up and down the canyon they are used to pack out garbage and mail from Phantom Ranch and used for supply and maintenance trips and also you can sign up to go on a mule ride as well!

So we kept trekking out way down into this wondrous canyon and were getting closer to the bottom plateau by now my knees were a little sore from all the down hill hiking heres a few more shots further down!
Well after that we made our way down the switchbacks down to in visual range Black Suspension Bridge less then a 1/2 mile from the campground and down to 2600 ft elv. where we saw the mules again this time it was a group of tourists riding them.
After we got to the bottom theres a tunnel to cross through to take the bridge that goes through the rock.
It was a really neat scenic view once we got to the bridge and started crossing it you could see Bright Angel Campground and the Colorado River! Here is some more amazing shots!

Well we finally arrived at Bright Angel campground 7.1 miles from the trailhead and about 2400 ft elevation and got our tents all set up and settled in and we restocked on water since there is no water between Kaibab Trailhead and the campground. We decided to pull out the Beverages and pose them for a pic.
Later that evening we headed over to Phantom Ranch they serve the guests staying in dorms there dinner then from 8-10pm they open it up to everyone so people line up about 30 min early waiting in freezing temps to get warm inside and be social and play board games. Here I am waiting to get inside.
Once we got in me and Jennifer decided to play a game of Jenga each game got more intense the last one we played lasted nearly an hour we got to the point where there was only 2 moves left! you can see in the pics my intense game face and how tall and rickety the tower got and everyone in the place started watching us.  I never played such a long game of Jenga Ryan thinks it was the Rocks of the Canyon I have to admit all that beautiful scenery definitely made me feel at ease and gave me a sense of calm and peacefulness i've never quite felt before so I think he was right!
Well after That we headed back to the campground We looked up and saw an amazing view of the clear sky we just sat and stared at it as we ate dinner before turing in for the night heres a shot of the amazing night sky!
Well thats it for day one lots of pics for this one cause the beauty of the canyon is hard to put in words hope you enjoyed it and I'll post day two soon. Thanks for reading!
